Streaming Video
There are hundreds of sites were users can upload, download, and stream video on the Internet. While YouTube is the largest, not all areas of the site are appropriate for school and it is often blocked by content filters. Despite this, YouTube is probably the best video streaming site for finding videos useful for education. TeacherTube was created to give educators a place to upload videos for professional development and classroom use. It is usually not blocked by content filters. Finally, United Streaming is a product of Discovery Networks. It contains thousands of hours of content, all educationally appropriate. This product does require a paid account, but most school systems subscribe and you should be able to obtain an account through your campus technology contact or principal.
Producing video projects can enhance learning as well. Students learn about the subject while producing a music video or documentary on it.

Distance Learning & Learning Management Systems
Course Managements Systems (CMS), or Learning Management Systems (LMS), are commonplace in the halls of higher education, but have lagged behind in common education. There are many different products available for this type of service, but here are a few examples:
The major drawback to the open source products is that they all require a web site account, either locally or through a host. However, GlobalClassroom is giving away free Moodle accounts to educators (http://my.texaslearn.org/).
Open Source Software
Open Source means that a program's source code is freely available to anyone that wishes to download it. This creates an environment where programmers look at code and try to improve it in order to remove security loopholes, inoperability issues, or streamlining efficiency. There are many different types of open source licenses for these different software, but most allow anyone to download and use the software for free.
A repository for open source projects is Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/index.php).
Probably to most famous open source project is Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com).
Additional Useful Software
Skype - Video/Voice Over Internet Protocol
Jeopardy PowerPoint Template
Macromolecule Jeopardy.ppt - This was originally used for an AP Biology class, but you can easily modify it. Look for tips in the Notes section within PowerPoint.
